Mary “Mae” Gabriel was born August 21, 1928 in Bellshill, Scotland. During WW II in 1939, Mary and her family faced compulsory evacuation to Sheringham, England. The family suffered through the London Blitz and Battle of Britain during which their dear father lost his life saving others. As a young woman, Mary trained to become a nurse. In 1949, Mary, her mother, and brother immigrated to the USA. Mary was a beautiful, unassuming, and loving person. She was a most gentle soul who was selfless in an uncommon way without any sense of agenda or distraction common to most. She was a devoted wife, mother, and an adoring Grandmother of three. Mary worked for many years in Medical Records at Tri-County Hospital in Springfield, PA where she had also done volunteer work. She made life-long friends with many good people during her entire working career and in the local community. Mary resided in Broomall, PA and was a member of St. Pius X Church for over 50 years. Mary greatly enjoyed time with family and friends, baby sitting, reading, cross-word puzzles, playing piano, singing in the DCCC Chorus, and traveling. With faith in God, she led a Christian life. She was truly a “saint” with a good sense of humor. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary was the daughter of the late Arthur and Catherine Ward Farnin and sister of the late Arthur Farnin. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 52 years, Raymond N. Gabriel; sons, Raymond husband of Sharon and Stephen husband of Nancy; and three beautiful grandchildren, Amanda, James, and Lillian.
